While warehouses require enormous energy for lighting, climate control, and ventilation, our plants thrive under Marlborough’s natural sunshine. Companion planting plays a crucial role in our integrated pest management. We’ve trialled over thirty different species, ultimately focusing on alyssum and red clover. These plants host beneficial predators like trichogramma wasps, which naturally control caterpillars and cutworms—our primary pests. This example of our biodiversity approach eliminates pesticide dependency while creating habitat for beneficial species.Â
Cover cropping during winter months rehabilitates our soil between growing seasons. These plants add organic matter, improve soil texture, and maintain the soil food web that feeds our cannabis plants through microbial relationships rather than synthetic fertilisers.Â
Our live drying technology also supports sustainability by eliminating waste from traditional curing. Instead of losing product to mould or degradation during lengthy drying periods, we preserve everything we harvest while reducing processing time and facility requirements.Â
Water management follows permaculture principles, using efficient irrigation and natural drainage. Our soil health programme focuses on building organic matter and microbial diversity that improve water retention and reduce runoff.Â
